The International Journal on Humanistic Ideology ( http://humanisticideology.blogspot.com/ ) invites researchers and academics to contribute to the third issue on
the Topics: MIND AND LANGUAGE.
Contributions are welcomed in the form of studies, articles or book reviews.
The material will be accompanied by an abstract (10 lines) – except for book reviews – a list of up to ten key words, and by the author’s CV, and a list of main publications (1/2 page). Materials, as well as general inquiries, can be sent via e-mail at humanistic.ideology@gmail.com or mihaelagligor@gmail.com
The International Journal on Humanistic Ideology encourages interdisciplinary approaches engaging the following domains: philosophy, philosophy of religions, political philosophy, political science, history, history of religions, history of ideas, history of science, anthropology, sociology, educational science and communications theory. Proposals from other related spheres of research can be submitted to the editors.
The language in which materials will be published is English.
The deadline for the submission of the papers is 15 May 2009.
The International Journal on Humanistic Ideology is published at Cluj University Press, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, biannually.

MOBIA Lecture: Reel Religion: A Century of the Bible and Film

Fr. Michael Morris, O.P., Professor of Art and Religion at the Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, California, owns one of the premier collections of vintage Biblical film posters in the country. Fr. Morris will speak about the nature, history, and provenance of the collection, and the history of Biblical films ranging from the 1898 recreation of the Oberammergau ritual to Mel Gibson’s „The Passion of the Christ.”
Lectures are free with the price of admission, and always free for MOBIA members.

The MOBIA Lectures have been underwritten by a generous gift from Walter and Darlene Hansen.

Dear Colleagues ,

Due to the fact that this year the Romanian Patriarchate dedicated year 2009 to comemorate and to celebrate the activity of the Cappadociens Fathers, if you allow me, I would like to ask you if you have any article, study, translation or book review ready, related to the life, wrintings or activity of this Fathers of Church, and if you would like to publish it in an International Volume that our Faculty of Theology is coordinating. The article must be at least 10 pages (Times New Roman, single line, 12 font size). The Volume will appear this summer at Universitaria Publishing House.

The deadline for submitting the material is 1 March 2009.

The Volume will be part in Romanian (20%), part in a foreign language (80% English, French, German, Greek).

If you know someone who could be interested in this project, please feel free to tell them.

Profesorul libanezo-american Philip Khuri Hitti reuşeşte să condense în Istoria arabilor o sumă impresionantă de informaţii ce acoperă o vastă întindere în timp şi spaţiu – de la primele atestări ale arabilor, trecând apoi prin strălucitoarele califate de la Damasc, de la Bagdad ori de la Cordoba şi oprindu-se asupra mişcărilor naţionale arabe din prima parte a secolului XX. Departe de rigiditatea unei cărţi de istorie, această lucrare devenită canonică, încă de la apariţia sa în 1937, pentru cei interesaţi de complexa istorie arabă, încântă nu numai prin seriozitatea documentării, ci şi prin stilul captivant, prin plasticitatea imaginilor, prin verva povestirii, ce sunt redate, de altfel, cu multă măiestrie şi har şi în prezenta versiune în limba română (George Grigore).

DESPRE AUTOR: Philip Khuri Hitti (1886-1978) născut în Liban, se stabileşte în 1913 în Statele Unite ale Americii, unde devine profesor la Universitatea Columbia, apoi la Princeton. Prin întreaga sa activitate, Hitti a avut o contribuţie majoră la dezvoltarea studiilor arabe în Europa Occidentală şi America .

DESPRE TRADUCĂTOR: Irina Vainovski-Mihai este lector la Secţia Arabă – Universitatea Creştină „Dimitrie Cantemir” din Bucureşti. A publicat numeroase lucrări proprii (eseuri, studii, poezii), precum şi traducerea unor lucrări de referinţă pentru literatura şi cultura arabă.

Announcing the Launch of the Studying Religion and New Media Wiki. This
wiki is designed for scholars and students of Media, Religion and
Culture who are focused on researching issues related to religion, the
internet and other forms of new media. This is a collaborative community
so welcome to the conversation

Based on some discussions I had last year with scholars at the
Association of Internet Researcher conference about creating a
collaborative space for sharing resources & research I would like to
announce the launch of the Studying Religion and New Media wiki for
researchers of religion and the internet/new media.

The 2009 Congress of the International Association for the Psychology of
Religion
(www.iapr.de) will be held in Vienna, Austria. The local
organizing committee consists of members of the Department of Practical
Theology and Psychology of Religion
(public.univie.ac.at/index.php?id=16590) in co-operation with the
Faculty of Psychology, Vienna University (psychologie.univie.ac.at/).

Over the years, the IAPR Congresses have become an important meeting
place for psychologists of religion and others interested in the field.
The IAPR encourages contributions from all countries. We invite you to
add to this congress with your empirical and/or theoretical research in,
for example, neurosciences, religion/spirituality, mental health,
fundamentalism or other topics. Congress languages will be mainly
English, but also German and French.

This new European periodical in English is of great concern for scholars of religion. It could have been created only in Romania , a land situated at the intersection between West (Europe) and East ( India ). Themes and approach (moderately postcolonial in the case of the Indian scholars) would have delighted Mircea Eliade.
