Realms of Faith
Medieval Art from the Walters Art Museum
Opens March 5 – July 13, 2008
These rarely seen treasures, dating from the sixth through the sixteenth centuries,
attest to the varied ways in which medieval artists crafted confessions of their spiritual devotion in
ivory, enamel, paint, metalwork, and stone.
Spirituality permeated nearly all aspects of medieval life as these artworks,
from the realm of the Church to the realm of the home, will demonstrate.
The exhibition underscores the lasting impact of the biblical tradition upon the
European lands from Valencia to Istanbul.
